When it comes to straightening your smile, there are more options available today than ever before, including Reveal aligners.  These custom trays work by moving your teeth and jaw into a better position over several months or years to correct alignment issues, bite problems, and gaps. To ensure that treatment goes as smoothly as possible, it’s important to take good care of your trays. Continue reading to learn 5 tips on caring for reveal aligners.

Tip #1: Clean Your Aligners Regularly

Be sure to clean your aligners on a regular basis. This will prevent them from looking cloudy or developing an unpleasant odor. Since bacteria can accumulate on them during the day as well as when you sleep at night, use a toothbrush with soft bristles and non-abrasive toothpaste to gently scrub your trays. Do this at least once per day to keep your aligners looking their best.

Tip #2: Soak Your Aligners Daily

Along with cleaning your Reveal aligners daily, you also need to soak them. Let them sit in a cleaning solution made specifically for clear aligners or one made for dentures or retainers. This will remove excess bacteria. Let your trays soak for at least 15 minutes, and then gently use a toothbrush to remove any caked-on plaque or food. Rinse them off before you put them back on.

Tip #3: Remove Your Aligners Before Eating or Drinking

It’s important to take your aligners out every time you eat or drink anything other than water. This is because neglecting to do so may cause them to become stained or damaged. This is also the perfect time to soak your trays.

Tip #4: Store Your Aligners Properly When Not in Use

Whenever you’re not wearing your Reveal aligners, you should store them in a protective case. Not only will this protect them from damage, but it will also help you keep track of where they are so you don’t accidentally lose them or throw them away.

Tip #5: Brush and Floss Your Teeth After Meals

Brushing twice and flossing once per day isn’t enough when you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. Make sure to do so after each meal. This will help prevent staining to your Reveal aligners and will also keep food from getting stuck behind them and raising your risk of developing cavities.
