Let’s say your dentist has recommended you get dentures. In their view, these prosthetics are the best way to restore your smile to working order. Still, you’re hesitant to commit since you’ve heard negative stereotypes about denture treatments. It’s enough to make you think you’d be better off without such an appliance. Fortunately, there’s no need to worry: most gossip around dentures in Goodlettsville is false. Here’s a summary of four busted myths on these false teeth to prove it.

Myth #1: Dentures Aren’t Dependable

If you follow pop culture, you may sense that dentures don’t work well. You believe they always slip, fall from your mouth, or fit improperly. Therefore, you can’t trust them as a dental restoration.

The truth, though, is that not all dentures fit the above description. You’d only face unreliability with cheap models, which use brittle materials that often don’t fit well. In contrast, quality dentures use neuromuscular principles to perfect their fit and function. These kinds are great at staying secure and work like natural teeth.

Myth #2: Dentures Are Unattractive

Rumors would have you imagine dentures as a collection of awful-looking false teeth. Some even depict them as downright unnatural, with colors and textures unlike your true pearly whites.

Once again, however, such an idea is inaccurate. Cheap dentures don’t look attractive due to their low-quality materials, but they’re an exception. Most high-quality ones are beautiful, relying on porcelain or acrylic resin teeth. They also result in plumper lips, fewer mouth wrinkles, and less loose skin beneath the chin.

Myth 3: Dentures Aren’t Custom-Made

Since many products are mass-produced, you might assume the same is true of dentures. As a result, you conclude that they aren’t custom-made. Instead, they must surely adopt a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach.

Thankfully, that assumption is untrue. In most cases, dental offices customize dentures to fit the unique needs of patients. To that end, dentists will take tooth impressions to ensure that the final product fits right.

Myth 4: Dentures Always Need Adhesives

You may have heard that “well-fitted” dentures require adhesives to stay in place. Worse yet, said adhesives taste bad and are uncomfortable.

Such rumors misrepresent denture creams. When your appliance fits well, it supports its seal without adhesive. Rather, it relies on suction to keep itself in place. Only dentures with a poor fit need creams to remain secure.

As you can see, dentures from Goodlettsville aren’t as bad as they’re made out to be. Talk to your local dentist about getting a pair to fix your smile in the coming days.
